What is Newgrounds?

Newgrounds is a website composed of thousands of active users who share their talents in music, flash creation, art and many other entertainment areas. It was founded by Tom Fulp in 1995, and since then Newgrounds had always been filled with numerous creative internet users, who helped Newgrounds grow in popularity.

Newgrounds is a perfect place for internet users to show and or develop their talents at no cost, and even realize their career paths based on their interests. If you love to make music or at least enjoy listening to it, love to make various types of flash (games, movies, etc.) or at least watch or play them, create art or enjoy watching it, then Newgrounds is the place to be in. The website provides the tools to upload your creations and let them be visible or audible to the Newgrounds community and even other outside sources. Your creations will be open to public opinion and even be potentially available to other professionals outside of Newgrounds. Even if you like chatting on different types of topics (such as politics, art, audio, games, or just express yourself in general), fortunately, Newgrounds provides with numerous active forums.

Structure of Newgrounds

Newgrounds can be a little complicated to navigate for first time visitors or users. The actual design of Newgrounds' homepage can also appear a bit childish to some people, but don't let the webdesign fool you. You will find many very talented people on this website, and not just people from United States, but also from numerous other countries worldwide.
The website itself is divided into many different major sections or portals, specially for people with different interests. It is divided into a Flash Portal, Audio Portal, Art, Games, Movies, Collections, Series, Forums, and their Newgrounds online Store. I'm going to explain what some of the major portals are made for.

The Flash Portal is made for various flash uploads such as online games, movies, etc. As a user, you are able to upload your flash creations as well as view and rate uploads of other users. Many flash submissions with great scores and views recieve prizes. This is also a good place to start learning how to create/program animations and or video games. The Flash Portal is very similar to the Games, Movies and Collections Portals.

The Audio Portal is made for musical submissions such as songs and loops in mp3 and wav formats. This is portal that I currently participate in. The portal has thousands of songs created by different users, some of which are real professional musicians and DJs. You can upload the songs that you have created or rate and review the songs of other Newgrounds users. In addition to rating and reviewing other songs, you can also download them safely and for free. You will find many great songs on Newgrounds, and most likely you will be tempted to download them.
Here are some of my own songs uploaded to Newgrounds, made with some audio making software. (I'm not a professional):
Computer Generated (electro house)
Electrogasmic (electro house)
Motochase (techno)
Around the Planet (techno)
Beyond The Milky Way (trance)
You are very welcomed to rate these and review.

The Art Portal is for artistic submissions from simple sketches to complex digitalized drawings. The portal is great for people to share their artistic skills and rating/reviewing system is similar to the rating system in flash and audio portals. This portal is a fairly new addition to the website.

The forums are also an entertaining part of Newgrounds because there are always filled with Newgrounds members, who are chatting about different topics. As a member, you can also start your own topic and in no time you will have a lot of replies.

Overall, Newgrounds is a website created for people to have fun. It is one of the best places on the internet to share your great skills and socialize with people who have similar skills as well.
So try for yourself. The registration is free, as well as any uploads or other activities on Newgrounds.
